Swatch Of Lorac Blushes

Jeno J. Tersánszky: Goodbye, sweetheart!

Many famous war novels to deal with the first world war, whether by Ernst Glaeser ("Year 1902"), Ludwig Renn ("War), Alexander Moritz Frey (" The paving blocks "), Erich Maria Remarque (" the Western Front "), Edlef Köppen ("Army Report") or others, are built after the war. Now my eyes fell to the bookshelf on a small paperback, which some years vegetated quietly on a shelf to himself: The novel by the Hungarian writer Jenő J. Tersanszky ! "Goodbye, dear," Sounds like Rosamunde Pilcher, the times have left out a happy ending. This Roman was born in 1916.

Tersánszky Jenő J. (1888 - 1969). In his early years he wanted to prescribe the music, but never could get over that he has never done it. He began to study painting ended up in the jurisprudence. In the few years of his activity as Assessor, he made a name for himself as an advocate of the poor. However, he drove somewhere else and then started writing. "With the spring he believed the disenfranchised, stranded and the bad in life are best able to got away." It Almos Csongár formulated in the epilogue, who was with the authors came for a visit.

When I got off the bus, I recognized him immediately, even though I never seen him and we had arranged by phone no identification.

Since in the German Internet finds little or nothing about Tersánszky, I am very grateful for the epilogue. He was a volunteer. In the spring of 1915, noted in his diary:

Quote from enriched from the diary of Tersánszky

from Colonel up everyone .... The general risk absolutely nothing for his giant pay, during the term for a soldier is not easy Sold risked everything.

order to avoid being a censor, and as an active soldier not to end court-martialed, he moved the novel's action in the eastern tip of Europe, in a village in Galicia. Pan-Slavism brings Russia to annex Poland during World War II, and the Poles, we select it in the novel, are very afraid of the Russians. Are you coming, and everyone can fllieht from the village. Also Nela a 24-year-old woman who comes after the bankruptcy and suicide of her father, the grandfather makes, when they first dreamed of even meet but the love of her life and hoping not to get bogged down as a wallflower in painfully futile dreams, an escape attempt which, however, fails. The Russians are here, you can hear the roar of the guns. Apparently, the village is located on the front line. Nela met the Russian officer Nikolai, who finds temporary shelter in the house, to know and love. It is also clear, from this love can never be anything. The officer is called back into the tumult of war, before Nela gets, however, because of their lust in a moral bottleneck, and they, after the officer is gone, however, a loose woman. The love of the officer had no trace of hope in the long run. The novel describes the social and moral descent of a decent girl to be in the First World War. Indecent and brutal is the only war that all Lease of life destroyed. Better to have succumb to the lust, as a wallflower stay in nostalgia fever, but it seems death is not far away. Well, yes, how was it with Lev Kopelev? Front marriages. Love in times of war is for us today in Germany hardly imagine.

This novel is certainly not a masterpiece of Hungarian art of storytelling, but an entertaining novel, which after all reflects the atmosphere of those days. So reminds me of the novel, even if nothing has Tersánszky of the sophistication of a Perutz, like the time of "Where you roll apples" . Still, I like to read novels from that period, but because they are so different than today's novels. Therein lies the charm.
